Group Runs

We are looking to grow our group

runs at every pace. Come on out

for one and get a group started.

Wednesday 5:30 pm at Charlotte Avenue YMCA, back of parking lot. 8 miles @ 7:30 – 8 min/mile

Thursday 5:30 pm at Charlotte Avenue YMCA, back of parking lot. 8 miles @ 7:30 – 8 min/mile

Saturdays

The Rock Hill Striders have a regular trail run at the ASC Greenway in Fort Mill every Saturday morning at 7:30 AM. The run starts at the back parking lot of the Leroy Springs Complex on Tom Hall Street.

The usual run is 11 miles, 5.5 miles out to the Dairy Barn and back so there are several places to turn around to make it shorter.

There is also a longer version. The trails are mostly single track and are moderately technical. As with all Striders runs, the group that is there will start at 7:30. Don’t be late.

There is a trail use fee. $2 per runner or $3 per biker. Self-pay at kiosk.

Sunday 7:30 at the Winthrop Coliseum. 7, 8, or 10 miles @ 8 minutes or faster. There may be some groups at a slower pace, depending on who shows up.

Saturday July 3, 2010 ACS Greenway:
We had several groups run today. The weather was perfect for a trail run.
Scott & Dave arrived early and ran around the lake for 14 miles. Lue & Ed ran to the Dairy Barn with Scott & Dave & then came back under the North tunnel for 11 miles, while Dan, Craig and I ran at 7:30 to the Dairy Barn and came back on the other side of the creek and the Complex tunnel for 10 miles at 1:34. We finished just after Scott & Dave. No one was muddy or bloody even though I fell near the end. I think Terri and a friend met at the complex and ran the roads so it was quite an active morning for the Striders.

Sunday July 4, 2010 Winthrop Coliseum:
This was the most incredible weather that I can remenber on a 4th of July weekend. In the years that I have been running on Sunday’s at Winthrop I have only shown up twice when I was the only runner. One of those days was on a July 4th Sunday, so I did not expect a large group. Ed, Dave and I were there to run 10 miles; and Jim (coach)K. was there with Hanna R. and four from the South Pointe team for their run. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see that everyone ran ten miles. I guess that Jim has the S.P. team’s base built earlier than usual this year. With this weather, we could have run twice as much.

Sunday July 11, 2010 Winthrop Coliseum:
The summer heat is back, but a slight breeze made the morning air comfortable. We had about twelve runners including several joining from the Rock Hill Triatalon club. They were working on running transitions. Coach Jim was there with several from the South Pointe team and several regulars, Terri, Craig, Dan, Geary and Dave rounded out the group. I took a few pictures, but I haven’t figured out how to upload them yet. We broke into several different pace and distance groups which shows that the Sunday group runs can be at any pace or distance that you want. (Unless you want to go very fast; then you might be on your own.) The several groups went 10 miles at varying paces, but there was also groups that ran 7 and 5 miles. After the run we were all smiles.

Saturday July 24, 2010 ASC Greenway
Well, let’s make it official: The Saturday runs at the Greenway will start at 7:00 AM through labor day.
I started out around 7:30 at the Complex. I saw Ed on his way back near the Dairy Barn. He mentioned that Scott & Dave were running around the lake so I stopped for water at the Dairy Barn and met up with them for the run back to the complex. For a really hot morning, running the trails helped make everything a little more comfortable.

We had a large group, probably 20 people. All ages were represented with a good turnout from the high school crowd getting ready for cross country and a few college runners keeping in shape while they are home for the summer. Hannah Robinson, former state champ from Rock Hill High and currently running for Furman University started off with a strong pace. When we caught up to her at the 5 mile water stop, she mentioned that the next five miles would be at an easier pace due to the heat. Well, everyone agreed, and, very few folks went ten miles on this hot Sunday (I counted three). On my way home after a longer than usual recovery, I notiiced the temp on the bank clock was 86 degrees. I gaurantee it will not be that hot next week.

Enjoyed seeing so many out at
Winthrop Col. last Sunday. Great news about the RRCA membership, Great Pumpkin for 2011, and a new and better RHS. Sending my 2011 membership renewal in today. I will be running the Myrtle Beach Half Marathon on Oct. 24th, Governors Cup Half Marathon on Nov 13th., and Thunder Road Half Marathon on Dec. 11th. Say a prayer for me that my 65 year old body holds up for these races. I look forward to more Sunday 10-12 mile runs with the Striders. Let me know how I can help the new officers. Good Running Earl Jackson
